I’ve taken this from the popular song, by Band-Aid. The famous lyrics, the best fundraising. It takes me back to being a young girl and hoping to help those less fortunate. I give the utmost credit to those who are inspiring, changing and bettering our world. The hit song still resonates with me. Thank you to the brilliant people who made this happen. I love making things happen.
I can’t help but think that many of our children with special needs do not know it’s Christmas. My daughter is surely not aware. The lyrics can be very similar to our lives:
It’s Christmas time, and there’s no need to be afraid
At Christmas time, we let in light and banish shame
And in our world of plenty
We can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmas time
To me, there’s no better time on earth to share the love, sorrow, and heartache of the Warrior life. I used to stress about getting Anna to the family gatherings. I would think of the prep, the equipment, the possible seizures, but I’m not afraid anymore.
Here could be our version:
It’s Christmas Time and we may really be afraid
Our world is full of plenty, we feel plenty when the day at the gathering goes smooth!
At Christmas time the joy we can share is showing that all lives are different and we are not robbed of that joy
Throw your arms around the world or go scream in a quiet room at Christmas time!
Anna had her transplant on 12/21/16, (8 years and three days ago) we were at Mott Children’s Hospital for Christmas. It was the best gift ever. It was the best learning experience. There are families there right now. I will never sit in my living room looking at my trees and having a delicious cup of coffee on Christmas morning without thinking of them. There are families in every state and country that are in the hospital with their child or adult with special needs. My love goes out to them.
We had a great time hosting Christmas this year. It was the first in many years and I asked my family to have it all the time. Anna does the best at home and so do I in regard to Christmas. We played poker, we played Left, Right, Center, and we exchanged gifts. I made some of the best cheesy potatoes ever. I wanted to go to Mass but it’s a hard thing. Anna can’t go that late, she turns into a pumpkin by about 9 pm. I’m thrilled I can find my faith in other ways at home and cherish the reason for the season.
We have the best gift ever this year, baby Elsie Jane. She’s enamored by Aunt Anna. She wants her toys, loves her big bed and the stars on her ceiling. I’ll bet she will always be in awe of Anna. I think Anna is a big star in this world. An example of how life can be for us, or for our neighbors.
Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Warrior Life, Year, Day, Minute. Take what you can get.
