Post Holiday Let Down

I think we can all get a little let down after a holiday.  I know this happens as I enjoy more holidays and get more days of fun and relaxation with Anna.  I look forward to the day “off” and just being able to “be.” As we Warriors (at least me) appreciate these days immensely.

Memorial Day.  I told my husband it wasn’t a major holiday.  He looked at me and I said, “Oh, it’s great for our heroes and celebrating them who have paid the ultimate price.  But it’s not a store closing and world stopping day.”  This is what I meant.  I love to have an extra weekday off of the daily grind.  For a true workaholic like me it’s a day to pause and stop and enjoy.  And this is what leads to the “post holiday let down.”

We had the barbeque, the pool, the sun, a great day here in Michigan to kick off summer and get our plants in the ground.  Paul went crazy with my idea of “A little sun shelter for coffee” and made me this quaint space that I love.  Else went in our pool (for the first time), and Gabrielle also, for the first time in many years.  It was fun to have Eric, Gabby and Elsie in the pool.  Elsie trying her hand at splashing and Paul and I whirling around.  This year we decided finally on the addition of a pool heater.  This is the only reason we were in on this holiday in May.  It was 82 degrees!

We had hot dogs and the traditional fare.  It was so enjoyable.  Anna is missing you might see.  She did not take part in the pool or much of the outdoors.  She is fine.  She just had her little way (specific whine) of telling us she wanted to be in her bed.  This is something both Paul and I have picked up on.  The whine will come, the bed will happen and we are all happy.  It used to bother me that she wasn’t “involved in everything” but I’m over that.  She does like to lay in her bed, and I’m totally cool with that.   She listens to her music, watches iCarly on Pluto TV and relaxes.  She spent a couple hours there while we had fun outside.  Of course I come in and check, or we have the monitor but she will almost always lay there content.  It was truly the perfect day.

After the kids left we kept up on some gardening needs and continued to spruce up the yard.  We discovered our jacuzzi was malfunctioning, but Paul knew how to fix it.  As we sat on our newly built coffee bar we reminisced about the day.   All of a sudden we heard a splash. Paul and I jumped up and I ran to the pool and he ran to the hot tub.  He was saying “Come on I’ll help you . . . “ when I figured it out.  Our beloved Bernie had not realized the hot tub cover was open (from Paul repairing the filter) and he decided to jump on top which he usually does.  Only this time it was open!!! Splash, shake shake. That was a wild finally to fun day.

And then Tuesday.  Can I tell you Warriors how much I longed for a repeat?  Post holiday letdown it’s real.  I’ll get over it soon, maybe in my new coffee house Paul made for us.
