Thank you to this life for music. Thank you for hard rock. Thank you for AC DC.
I was driving home from a visit with my mother, Anna’s maternal grandmother. These visits are not easy. Anna loves to drive and loves to hear rock music while driving. This makes these difficult visits more enjoyable. Music calms her soul. Yes, I know this happens with many people, including this Warrior Mom.
But for Anna it’s instant. It’s like oxygen. She is alert and aware when she hears music. Specifically hard- loud -and grindy or heavy metal music.
Sometimes I like to talk on the phone in the car, known as my “mobile office.” I try to be fair and give Anna her time also, or should I say her music.
So I’m driving home this past weekend. I turn the dial and here comes Bon Scott of AC DC belting out the title tune. And I see Anna just “turn on.” She comes alive, I mean total extreme happiness.
Of course I’m driving so I’m really concentrating on the road, but I had to revel in the joy of Anna. I see her flailing and out and out shooting her arms and hands into the air, hitting the van roof, laughing hysterically, cackling, giggling and just having her own out of control joy at the music she was hearing. She was screaming and wailing and just living. Just living to her fullest glory!
I thought to myself if only I could show this to the skeptics in the world who don’t get how our lives roll, how our kids make joy in life, how we cope. This would be the selling commercial of it all. The true grit of just enjoying life. Keeping full of hope and happiness comes easy when you are lucky enough to witness this. There is no need for anything exterior to find joy, joy was right inside my back seat. Right there on that little doll’s face and her in her moment. The best moment of the day. She was everything to me and life in that song, in that time.
You know like when you see that movie that changes your life, the feeling you get inside about the world, life, who you are and who you become. This is what I felt at that moment. Seeing her love her life, love the song, and be happy. Just plain happy.
Somehow I got two photos, which doesn’t show it justice can’t get a video while I’m driving, but you get the idea. Enjoy my friends.
