Self Care AND a WEDDING

This week I focused on self care as a Warrior.  Everyone needs it but we need it more as we work, be caregivers and do all the extras.  It requires stopping and taking a break at times to make our life and our child happy.  Caregiving is the daily chore that never stops.  They always need feeding, changing, meds, laundry, family time . . .  the list goes on.  If you don’t full up your bucket no one else will.  We can buy a lot of things that cut down on our need to put our own effort into things with modern technology.  We have litter boxes that work on their own, vacuums that do it all alone, the list goes on.  Nobody can do your self care.  That’s a good thing.  I never want it automated.  You can never get anyone to exercise for you and that’s a good thing!  At least in my eyes.

This past weekend I indulged.  My husband makes the best French toast.  We buy the big fat Texas toast and he makes it wonderful.  Since it was Superbowl Sunday we each had an extra piece of bacon.  I actually ate three slices of French toast and five slices of fat thick and utterly delicious bacon.  I then loaded up my dogs, Moxie and Bernie and went to the metro park.

I know they have their trails shoveled.  I’ve been true to myself and have not risked running in my neighborhood for quite some time.  (no more torn tendons for me, once was enough).  The Peloton and the treadmill are great, but there is nothing like being outside.  As I’ve said before, I feel like a dog when I run with my dogs.  I love it.  I just take it in and let all the chaos of life go.  We ran Saturday and Sunday.  Sunday was better because the weather warmed up.  I took the day as it came Sunday and didn’t “make” myself adhere to any chores.  self care.  Thank you Paul for having Anna at these times, we are a good team.  Paul took self care time today as he headed to the pole barn to relax and get some away time.

The wedding photos are back.  I’m thrilled that the day was a success, as I’ve mentioned in a recent blog.  Anna was included as always, although that was not the original plan.  It was such a cold day, six degrees.  I’m proud of the bride and groom in many ways, but really impressed they went outside for photos.  I might have said no myself.  Well, I guess when you’re in your 20’s you are more easy to persuade.  We all enjoyed the love you can see in their faces.

It’s been a good week.  I’m enjoying Anna in school as next week she will be out all week.  Winter Break.  This year is whizzing by, but most of them do.  We still have time to be cozy before the days are long.  Boy, am I ready for the night sky to stay light longer!!! That is coming my friends, March 8. That is daylight savings time.  Less than a month away!

Let me remind you to take time for yourself.  We are working two jobs.  Even for those who may not clock in a full time job, you must take care of you and the home and your child.  A reset is needed.  Appreciate the down time, schedule it and make it happen.

Thank you for Reading our Blog
