It sounds like a marathon. It can be in a way. This title represents the time Paul and I will have alone without Anna at our new property. I have had no time alone there as of yet. Paul has, but neither of us have had a chance to be alone together without Anna there.
This is not something that keeps us up at night. It is something we take on with pride. However, I have been dreaming of driving to the Irish Hills without her to take care of. This is because we are doing things like cleaning out sheds, packing things to sell or discard and maybe go on a walk down our beautiful dirt road. I know that with fall comes the beauty of winter and taking Anna there in the cold times will be few and far between. Unless that is, our wood stove works well and we can have times in the pole barn. Only if it is warm enough for Anna. So this 6.5 hours is like a micro vacation we have.
So the day began with a target time to leave at 6:30 a.m. This is when Anna gets on the bus approximately. I rethought this idea when I gave her a bath and then continued getting her ready. I thought, “How will I get ready while I try to get her and stare out the window waiting for the bus?” Alas, I pushed the time back to 7 a.m. for departure. That felt better and gave Paul a half hour more to sleep.
I was eager to get ready as I pushed Anna on the bus. Paul was up, I sipped the last of my coffee with him and got my leisure clothes on and was ready. We decided to splurge and have strawberry milkshakes for breakfast on our way up! I splurged more and topped mine with whipped cream. The fun was already beginning. We took the big dogs too, leaving little Bulter (our toy poodle) behind because he’s a senior and will get stepped on by the big ones in the kennel; plus he barks like he’s on repeat in a kennel.
We stopped so I could empty my bladder at Busch’s Market. I also had to grab our lunch. We have no power up at the property yet. I just wanted something light so I opted for Lunchables. I grabbed some dog treats and we were on our way. It was so early I was the only person in the store it was fun and serene, the kind of aloneness only a Warrior really knows.
The ride was gorgeous. Taking US 12 and looking at the colors and the fog on the farm fields was so nice and relaxing. So much to fill up your soul. So much to be appreciative of. We passed a diner in an old building. I could see people eating breakfast through the front windows. How fun, I told Paul, “Let’s eat there next time!” I was so happy and full of life and loving everything, a great day was unfolding.
We got to our property and we took the dogs on a walk. The first time we were together out there in the morning before 9 am, it was quiet and very tranquil. We got to see the area and explore. Dirt roads that wind and looking at the scenery is so enjoyable.
Back at the property we cleaned and did projects until our deadline of 1 pm. We have to get on the road to make the trip for Anna. I always get in the car and my lower back is screaming at me and it calms down on the ride. I wanted to keep spending time together so I asked Paul his favorite question. “Do you want to take a quick nap together?” He smiled.
We got Anna off the bus and tucked her in bed, which she will usually lay there and watch her TV after school and get her tube fed hydration. We are lucky in that she likes her bed. Then we rested which topped off the fun day.
I slept till 5, got up, made spaghetti sauce in the crock pot, fed the dogs, did a few dishes and I was on my way off to yoga! What a great day. What a fun life, the Warrior way! A bit of self care and a bit of needed chores. The way life should be.
