Solo “Warrioring”

I have the luxury to be a solo warrior from today until tomorrow at 5:30 pm.  Since Anna is at school this will not be a full two-day adventure for us.  It will be a two-day adventure for me.

Tonight I will walk to a local restaurant with my two other girls, Gabrielle and Elsie Jane, and Anna to get some delicious cheese filled deep fried pierogi.  Thank you Gabrielle, big sis for grabbing your sister off the bus while being a mom to 13-month-old Elsie.   I’m looking forward to the walk and the time to have a girls’ dinner.  Elsie enjoys being entertained by Anna.

After the walk, Anna and I will run around town, taking a few things to my other “bonus daughter,” Hailey, who is always so joyful to receive my “grab bags of goodies,” and I will take them out of my basement!

I’ve really cleared all the stuff from my mom’s condo and this is the last of the stuff.  My basement seems walkable now and I’m always thrilled to give stuff away.  The other errand is delivering a dress I hemmed for one of Gabby’s friends.  This is perfect because Anna gets a car ride.  I will consider  a hot pumpkin spice latte on the way home.  I will come home, tuck Anna into bed and sit down and read for 40 minutes then get my bedtime routine done for Anna and for me.  Being solo means I will dose her meds, fill her water bottles, get her stuff all charged and ready for school and tuck her in and do her nighttime needs before I read.

Tomorrow is my fun day.  I will put Anna on the bus and then run for an hour at least.  I will come home and soak in the hot tub.  Then I will get to work.  I plan on getting all the rest of my Halloween decorations out in my home.  I will make a homemade lunch, throw an Omaha Steak roast in the crockpot, and then at 5:30 go to yoga.  After yoga, I will just eat with Paul, who will be home, so I can go to yoga.  I’m very excited for my day.

All of this is because we are Warriors.  For me, it’s helpful to remember that if there was no “Anna” this wouldn’t be any other day, and no big deal.  With Anna, Paul and I have to arrange a lot to get him off “bus duty” and me be at work.  A life that only moms like us know.  I often wonder how it would be not to plan each day out because we have Anna.  I don’t want to not have her of course, but it’s a very different lifestyle.  One that we know all too well.

Does anyone on the planet understand time alone like the Warrior mother?  Dad pitches in too.  I hope Paul is enjoying our newly purchased property and sleeping in our camper.  I’m not there because (1) there’s no electricity yet and (2) Anna has school and (3) It’s Halloween party prep time. A bonus about this time is that it’s nice weather too, so we both get to enjoy the outdoors until the fluffy white snow falls.

I love Fall . . . Halloween . . . being a Granny . . . days alone to myself . . . and coffee.  The next two days will bring much bliss.  This is what we all need: good self-care.  Go and get some, if even for an hour.  You deserve it.
