I’ve had a realization this week for Spring Break Time. Anna sucks up my morning. And we know that ALL KIDS do that. I let her suck it up, but boy do I like this Spring Break Time. I’m out running way earlier, I get to read, do laundry, clean up the house, run, shower, eat breakfast (while sitting down), and a ton of other fun things. I’m not a total slave to my clock with no Anna care to do.
Each morning she has school my mind is set in military mode. I wake up and I get going. I am routine like a robot. Do this at this time, then another task at this time, and then get her out of bed no later than 5:50, it’s a very rigid morning. Then I get her on the bus all fresh and ready and I have 35 minutes before I have to get myself ready. Sometimes I even shower her in the morning.
This week I have felt so free in the morning. It’s been an awakening to how much time it takes to get her up, get her dressed, and time everything, according to that big beautiful bus coming to pick her up for school.
This has been a great revelation. I have something to look forward to when she graduates in just 3 years. I know my life will change drastically then, but I am actually looking forward to these mornings to be less timed and calculated. This is the first time I’ve ever thought of a “good” about her being done with school. She won’t go to college, she won’t work, she won’t have the daily social life and routine she has now. I’m beginning to find the bright side and this spring break the bright mornings are shining through.
Other fun things this week are the sweetness of sneaking in her room. Seeing her cozy and snuggled in her bed with her little hands tucked under her cheek, just sleeping so content and sweet. I’m careful to administer her 7 medications and a water flush while trying not to wake her. I’m successful 80 percent of the time. When she stirs, I just keep quiet, put her bed rail back up and cross my fingers she gets more sleep. If she doesn’t, then I get to wake her dad to take over as I get ready for my workday.
She gets to stay up later now, and it’s fun to sit on the couch with her at night for about an hour longer than on her school days. I wonder how much she notices about this week’s routine. Sure, she must realize she is out of school.
I asked Paul to do a little more than I usually ask him to do. He’s always willing. I like to caretake for her so I’m often the one who bathes and organizes her supplies in her room. This week I let Paul bathe her and it was nice. He organized her monthly shipment of diapers and supplies also. So now on her breaks from school she’ll get showers from dad. She’s been watching SciFi with dad and having a staycation for the most part. She does love that loud surround sound stereo and the crazy action scenes of those types of movies.

Warrior Down Update: Well, the fall and the “sprained arm” turned out to be much more than sprained. After an x-ray and then an MRI this Warrior has a completely torn tendon, a frayed tendon and swelling and fluid on the joint all affecting the rotator cuff. I see the ortho surgeon tomorrow to prepare for surgery. A bigger deal because of caring for Anna. Paul will pick up the slack. I’m hoping it happens soon so that I can get back to my activities. Life’s a curve ball but we are great catchers!
