Our family had the surprise of a lifetime on August 14, 2026. I came home from work at the beginning of my vacation. I had my hands full with my lunchbox, tupperware containers from the past week at work, my purse, etc. I opened the screen door to the side of the house. The person who opened the entry door was none other than my son who is currently stationed in Germany serving in the U.S. Air Force. What a shock, a sheer delight and what a fun way to start my vacation!
He had been sent to Florida to train and he figured, I can’t waste this opportunity to be in the states. So he surprised the whole family. The last time we saw him was May 2025. And nobody thought we’d see him until next summer.
Surprises like this are good. They are full of awe and wonder. Those things in life that change the course of your week. It’s a delightful and amazing surprise. We went to my daughter’s work where she was waitressing. She was delighted and she was able to serve us and I had all three of my children at one time. This has not happened in over a year. The night was joyous and full of so much love and complete shock. I was shocked for at least two days.
It was sincere and funny when my daughter Gabrielle questioned her brother, “You know mom doesn’t like surprises,” questioning his act. Of course military surprise trips home do not fall into the unliked category by me. My goodness they are once in a lifetime!
So much fun was squeezed in. . . . . including:
A tour of the home that his sister would purchase
A trip to The Henry Ford
A trip to Cedar Point
A trip to the cottage to help with construction
Visiting all family and friends
Two weeks of fun and Anna was able to spend some time with her brother as well.
Many dinners and cups of coffee together!
It was hard to wait to blog about this but I had to wait until he was done with the surprises (there were many).
I will never forget this fun that we all had. I was stunned with this surprise. The good times are better embraced by Warrior moms as we have days and lives filled with lots of duties and chores. We all took time to smell the roses. It was a delightful summer. A spectacular summer, thank goodness for family.
