My 26 year old daughter recently moved, and/or is in the process of it all. Which is why my blog was absent last week. A move is so life consuming and so involved it hijacks your life and you have to fight to stay mentally sane. And moving with a two year old is at times sheer torture.
I’ve been thinking of the similarities it has to being a mother of a complicated and medically challenged or behavior difficult child. There are stark comparisons. There is an unpacking that must be done for each and every day. Literally unpacking of medical supplies that come each and every month. Not to mention the feeding supplies which are another time consuming element. The medications and the relationship you have with the pharmacy is another constant call, new need like moving and then the unpacking of the shipped supplies (Anna gets her medications home delivered now. Hallelujah we don’t have to “sign” for them anymore. We are settled now, as we have lived in the same home for almost 20 years, but we move in a way monthly as we partake in all these never ending ways of unpacking.
For all sense and purposes we somehow live unpacking most of the time. We are great unpackers and we know how to rest and settle. But life events like this when your very close family member moves makes it a big reality that you are caring for someone 100 percent of the time. And when you are trying to help another person it makes it all that more of a juggle.
But we did it and Anna had some fun along the way. I’m excited that my other daughter’s new house has only one cement step to pull the wheelchair up and I CAN DO IT ALONE! Huge bonus. Yay! Every part of my life is access for Anna. This is such better access!
We had a funny situation that happened to bring laughter to the day with unpacking and work work work. My sweet granddaughter, Elsie Jane got into her mama’s lipstick. It was a time of laughter and fun. Paul told Gabrielle, “Elsie has your makeup and lipstick all over her face.” To which Gabby said, “You’re kidding right?” And he said, “No I’m not kidding.” The most stressful thing for sweet little Elsie was that she had put it all over her favorite bear! And you can see the look on her face as she was worried about getting it off her bear. So in the midst of complete chaos the fun little times of life peak through. Anna just sat and enjoyed all the shows that life unfolded for us. Thank you sweet Elsie for the laughter and fun in the midst of hard work.
