Anna and I had a girls’ afternoon this week. After doing the needed things, appointments, errands, etc. We headed to a fun destination. A blast from the past, in both atmosphere and people.
Let me explain. Years ago, I worked with a delightful human being. Her name is Lisa. We waitressed together. She was always bringing in home-cooked items and sharing them with us. She would always tell us a better way to make something. She was super generous with everything. She would bring in decorations and all kinds of things for the restaurant and for us to take home. Her name should have been “Giver” instead of Lisa. She made me see how fun and awesome just giving can be. We worked together until the days in the restaurant business drove us apart. I can’t remember if she left or did first, but that was it. We met once for breakfast and then years passed. . . .14 of them.
Then, alas! She appeared on my Facebook Page. Thank you, FB for connecting people. She had purchased and opened a fabulous little diner near me. In Wayne, Michigan.
So Anna and I ventured there this past week. I did not know what to expect (for the getting in and wheelchair part), which is always a wild card. So I pulled in. Two big handicapped spots out front, this was great. Then I got her up to the door. It was kind of small, but I was able to maneuver the lobby. I popped in and saw that I’d have to push a few chairs aside, but the smiling faces of staff and patrons greeted me, helping in any way possible.
Not only did I see Lisa immediately, but another girl I waitressed with at L George’s in Canton. (Once you waitress, you see your cohorts everywhere). We all talked and caught up. I ordered the best chili cheese fries I’ve had in years, leave it to Lisa. Yes, three blends of melted cheese on top of the best-cooked fries in the industry. I ate, Anna took in the atmosphere, and I ordered a slice of homemade carrot cake to go.
Upon leaving, all the help was once again received, people moving chairs, and the waitress followed me out to hold the door. It was a beautiful visit, an eye-pleasing atmosphere, and good old-fashioned love and neighbors right down the street. If you live nearby, I urge you to check it out. You will not be disappointed. Oh, did I mention the lovely, cute china plates and bowls that are unique and mismatched perfectly. . . Leave it to Lisa.
