As I have mentioned before it’s a challenge to be a Warrior and a granny at the same time. But, I’m making it work. Honestly, I’d say I’m actually excelling.
We have been having sleepovers with Elsie and Anna on Wednesdays and there is no Paul around. He’s busy at our other place, the cottage. So, it’s been me solo.
I get home from work, Gabby takes off and it’s just me and the girls. We have not gone anywhere yet because pushing a wheelchair and carrying a two year old seems like that’s not fair for my back. But that’s okay, it’s a cozy season. Anna is easy to please and doesn’t argue with Elsie for which show to watch! I put Anna to bed and then bathe and take care of Elsie. Then Elsie sleeps while I get Anna up, bathed and on the bus and so far she hasn’t woken until Anna’s been long gone. We love our Wednesdays and as Elsie grows up she will get more independent and more of my little helper with Anna.
This may seem like an easy boring thing to do, but when you live this life and you are constantly caretaking tasks like these are more difficult. You wish you could just have your grandchild and no other child to care for, but that is not the case with our lives. We choose to have Anna so she must be involved in every detail. It was Gabby who actually inspired me. I said, “I’d love to keep Elsie overnight because I’m off on Thursdays, but I’m not sure how I’d get Anna on the bus with Elsie here.” My sweet smart daughter said, “Well, as early as you get up I’m sure you could get out of bed and Elsie would stay sleeping, you can try and see.” I loved it, simple and very logical. It’s working and just like all the nuances of the Warrior, sometimes things go well and sometimes you just power through and are amazed later!
As I’ve always said, this life is challenging to say the least. It can be so hard when you have a sweet and feisty two year old to keep you in check. We got to play ball in the house, eat cookies while watching the Care Bears, and had a great relaxed morning (which I rarely do). There’s nothing like a girls night!
