I recently had a few lovely friends over for a harvest dinner and I went to Home Goods to spruce up my table. Is there any getaway alone like browsing the aisles of Home Goods? It’s a fantastic experience for the maximalist or minimalist. It brings out the holiday energy no matter what the upcoming holiday. The great decor and party items just make my mood soar. I found great inspiration and enjoyed all the fun things to gaze at, and enjoyed a few sale items.
While this was all happening, I’m not sure if a sale was going on, but it was very crowded. It was on a Thursday at 1pm. Maybe the upcoming weekend? Has holiday shopping begun? Is it the race for two weeks until Halloween? The aisles were buzzing and I had to “look” for a parking spot. I was keenly aware that if I had Anna this would not feel good. I would not be able to make it in this store today with a wheelchair. Like it or not this is my reality. But, I was okay with this reality. I was happy to be there alone, running in and out. I felt this surge of alone time, like an incognito spy that nobody knew. I had this beautiful girl at home that could not fit well in the store or with my mood about the store, and nobody had to know! I was escaping from my life and it felt so good and fulfilling. It’s not a place for us. It’s a place for me and this is perfectly fine. No Home Goods for Anna but my little escapes are quite divine.
I’ve begun my winter school time ritual. I get Anna up and ready and do all the things necessary to have her set to board the bus. It’s a busy morning as I have mentioned on many occasions. With winter, coats and other things that need to be done so it’s more. Winter is more. It’s not that I’m unhappy about it, it’s just more work. So I have made a new ritual, not daily but a fun handful of times per week. What is it you ask? Well, it’s “Cookie time in the Basement.” I’ve learned to hide from my beloved dogs (who make me feel like giving in with my cookies), by going in my basement. I am enjoying the cookie all alone, with my coffee, knowing Anna is on her way on her jolly school bus. I’m ready to get myself moving without her, but first, cookie time. It’s magical. (And yes, I only eat one) Try it Warriors, it will not disappoint.
